Information for beginners:
RPI is great for beginners, it is very community based and a space where everyone is included and welcomed. We would recommend the Tater Tot course, it is 50% gravel 50% pavement and offers stunning views through the ride!
Ways this race promotes inclusivity:
Together with The Be Good Foundation, we will be offering scholarship opportunities for underserved communities that will help riders with travel, training, race fees, and lodging.
Weekend activities
Friday, we have our annual Be Good Foundation Party. Along with the race, it is a celebration of people, purpose, and place. For the last two years, we've had amazing food from World-Class Chef, Biju Thomas. RPI is also the biggest fundraiser of the year for the foundation and on Friday night party-goers have to opportunity to donate, enter our raffle, bid in the online auction, mingle with other riders and Rebecca herself, as well as learn about the mission of The Be Good Foundation. Saturday we offer an expo with fun events and talks from our vendors/sponsors. Our entire event is family and community-focused. Sunday as riders complete their respective races we have another small expo/ party in festival meadows where families/riders can grab some food, listen to live music and explore the various different vendors and sponsors.
Travel:
The entire Sun Valley area is serviced by both air and ground transport. Hailey's airport (SUN) has flights from Salt Lake City, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles via SkyWest and Alaska Airlines. Should you need more flights from which to choose, Boise International (BOI) is a 2.5-hour drive to Ketchum with shuttle or rental car options. SunValley.com and VisitSunValley.com have trip planning pages to help you fill in the blanks and flush out your options. The City of Ketchum itself is biking-friendly, however, a car is recommended.
Accommodations:
As for the mint-on-the-pillow side of things, we reached out to our local hostelries to see if they wouldn’t sweeten the pot for our honored RPI guests. Don’t wait too long, though. Ketchum is still a small town, and we’ve got a limited amount of beds, especially with Wagon Days Parade happening the same weekend. This is not some yokel event; it’s the biggest non-motorized parade in the country, and people come from all over just to take it in. On top of that, there’s a clean 1,100 miles of singletrack in the area, some of it in spitting distance of downtown. The lodging we recommend and have discounts for are Limelight Hotel, Alpine Lodging, Hotel Ketchum, & Tamarack Lodge.
Camping is fairly abundant in the Sawtooth National Forest outside of town with designated campgrounds and dispersed camping. Because this is a holiday weekend, the regular campgrounds are full, but there is dispersed camping off almost every dirt road in the valley; almost all of these will be out of cell phone range, so be sure to allow enough time to drive around to find a spot.
Beyond the Race
Our event takes place on historic Shoshone-Bannock Tribal land, there are countless hot springs around the area as well as amazing views, hikes, and hiking/biking trails.
